New Castle Hotels

Found just 7 miles south of Wilmington, New Castle is a charming and historic town that once served as Delaware’s capital. Should you stay at one of the hotels in New Castle, you’ll enjoy a nice base for area tours and day trips. The Brandywine Valley here holds many delights, and cities like Wilmington and Philadelphia are just a short drive away. The New Castle hotels are mostly of the motel and bed and breakfast variety, so if you’re looking for more opulence, you might look first to the nearby Wilmington hotels. Should you choose a New Castle accommodation for a night or more, you’ll enjoy stepping out onto quaint brink sidewalks and cobblestone streets. Here are a few New Castle lodging ideas, should you be planning a visit to this relaxing hamlet.

If Delaware’s rich history is what attracts you to the state, then you might book a few nights or more at the William Penn Guesthouse at 206 Delaware Street. This guest house dates back to 1682, and has been lovingly restored. There are only 4 units to choose from here, and only one has a private bath, so you’ll want to book ahead when possible. William Penn himself is said to have stayed here for a night, and you are within walking distance of Battery Park and the Delaware River. The rooms here are pretty nice, and this bed and breakfast won’t break the bank. The amenities are fairly limited, but heat, air-conditioning and cable television is enough to satisfy most guests. As is the case with bed and breakfasts, a nice morning meal is included in the rates, and it should help you prepare for a day of sightseeing. For lunch and dinner, you can walk to a few nice restaurants that are pretty much guaranteed to suit your dining needs.

The Terry House Bed and Breakfast is another historic New Castle lodging choice, and it’s also found on Delaware Street. This “Federal Town House” was built around the year 1860, and the hotel’s gardens bump up against the lovely Battery Park. Like the previous bed and breakfast entry, there are only four rooms here, and they are all spacious and nicely decorated. Guests can relax on one of the porches that are found at the back of the house, and there is a nice communal living room where you can peruse the books and music choices. Private baths come with each room, as do Queen size beds and cable TV. There are in-room dataports available, and when it gets warm, you’ll appreciate the air-conditioning. You can make local calls from your room’s phone, and much like the William Penn Guesthouse, the rates here are pretty agreeable. WiFi internet access is also available, which is a nice added touch.

Also well-priced, the Bridgeview Inn is a good New Castle accommodation option for those looking for a more standard experience at the hotels in New Castle. Featuring 120 units spread over two floors, this Colonial-style property is not found within the town’s historic district, but you are close enough to it to satisfy most. You’ll find comfortable rooms here that feature coffee makers, hair dryers, irons, A/C, cable TV and dataports. Free parking and a continental breakfast are nice features, and if you have a small dog, you can pay a bit extra to have it stay in your room. Daily maid service keeps the rooms nice and clean, and during the warmer months, you can enjoy the hotel’s outdoor swimming pool. There are guest laundry facilities here, as well as a fitness center and meeting facilities.

Delaware motels are in good supply, and such is the case in and around New Castle. The Quality Inn Skyways New Castle hotel is found close to the airport, just off of Interstate 95. Recent renovations have the rooms looking nice and new, and there are plenty of nearby places to grab a bite to eat. There are two restaurants on-site, one somewhat akin to a sports bar, and the other a nice Italian affair. This New Castle lodging choice has an older building, and a newer addition. You can pay extra for a newer and nicer room and still feel like you’re saving, so whichever way you decide to go, it won’t break the budget. The larger rooms here have microwaves, refrigerators and whirlpool tubs among their amenities, and all rooms feature coffee makers, climate control capabilities, free local calls, complimentary high-speed internet access, andcable TV. You can expect a friendly staff here, and when it comes down to New Castle hotels, this one tends to be a favorite. Overall, it’s a bit nicer than some of the other hotels in New Castle, and as mentioned, there aren’t too many New Castle lodging options.
