Boise

The city of Boise Idaho is not only the capitol city of Idaho, but it is also the most populated city in Idaho. Located in southwestern Idaho, the city of Boise Idaho is close to a wide array of outdoor activities and indoor cultural pursuits. While many outside visitors come to Boise Idaho to vacation, many locals also continue to enjoy the hunting, fishing, boating and skiing found within their state, which are some of the most popular things to do in Boise Idaho.

The name “Boise” means “wooded” in French, and was so named by a group of French traders who found this city by the water and saw that it was full of trees. The Boise River, a popular place for rafting, canoeing and fly fishing, runs right through the center of town. The city of Boise replaced Lewiston as the capital of Idaho in 1865, and has been a growing metropolis ever since.

There are a number of things to do in Boise Idaho that continue to make Boise Idaho vacations so popular. One of the most well-known things to do in Boise Idaho is to walk, bike, jog or skate down the Boise River Greenbelt. The Greenbelt is a 20 mile long paved pathway that runs through and around the city and along the Boise River. The Boise River itself is a popular attraction for travel to Boise Idaho. Fly fishing is a major attraction in Boise, and throughout Idaho, and many fishermen travel to Boise Idaho to fish.

Another reason for traveler to Boise Idaho is a trip to the Bogus Basin Mountain Resort. From downtown, it will take travelers about 45 minutes to reach the Bogus Basin Mountain Resort, where cross-country skiing, snowboarding, inner tubing and downhill skiing are all popular pastimes. The lake town of Coeur d’Alene is also located not to far from Boise.

The Boise Art Museum is yet another reason for a Boise Idaho vacation. The Boise Art Museum is one of the most prominent art museums in the state of Idaho, and focuses on local and Pacific Northwest Art. Other Boise museums include the Basque Museum and Cultural Center, the Idaho Historical Museums, the World Center for Birds of Prey and the Old Idaho Penitentiary building. The Idaho State Capitol building is also a great place to visit, and is the only capitol building in the nation heated by geothermal water. If you do plan to take a Boise Idaho vacation, be sure not to miss a tour of the capitol building.
