The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston
is said to be a cross between the Musee d’Orsay
in Paris and the
British Museum in London.
The city of Boston has always had a great respect for
the arts and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston is the
city’s tribute to world renowned artworks. Currently
the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston is undergoing extensive
renovations and the east wing has all but disappeared
in ongoing demolition. The completion of the grand addition
to the museum is expected for 2010. This renovation will
mean bringing new and exciting art into the museum and
developing new events and programs that would benefit
the building’s daily visitors. Currently the Museum
of Fine Art in Boston is developing many new exhibits
and displays that locals and visitors are highly anticipating.
The Boston Museum of Fine Arts is located on Huntington Avenue and is easily accessible by the city’s transportation system, the MBTA or the “T” as locals refer to it. The “Ruggles” stop is the get-off from the Green or Orange lines. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts can also be accessed by bus and the stop is the same “Ruggles” stop departure point. There are two museum lots one which is a covered garage and the other an open-air parking lot. Parking is limited and fills up very fast at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. The museum encourages people to carpool or even better, to take public transport when visiting. Daily hours for the Boston Museum of Fine Arts are Monday and Tuesday from 10am to 4:45pm, Wednesday to Friday from 10am to 9:45pm and 10am, to 4:45pm on Saturday and Sunday. Only select galleries and the West Wing are open after 4:45pm. Admission is as follows; $17 for adults, $15 for seniors and students over 18 and 46.50 for ages7 to 17 and 6 and under is free. Check rates before visiting, especially with the new renovations.
The Boston Museum has an enormous collection of fine and rare art featured from different areas of the world. The Art of Asia, Africa and Oceania is a big hit with art connoisseurs. One current feature is the Weng Collection which runs from May through August 2007 and is highlighted by Chinese paintings and caligraphy. The Art of Europe is an equally extensive collection at the Boston Museum. This collection includes an astounding 22,000 pieces ranging from the seventh century to the twentieth century and includes some of the greatest masterpieces of our time.
Further collections at the Boston Museum include Art of the Americas, Art of the Ancient World, Contemporary Art, Prints, Drawings, and Photos, Musical Instruments and Textiles and Fashion Arts. Currently there are 13 limited exhibitions at the Boston Museum and many upcoming as well. Over 27 collection highlights are offered on the Boston Museum interactive tour offering a great way for visitors to learn about the abundant artworks and history behind the artists and their lives.
Dining amenities can be located right inside the Boston Museum and include two cafes, one more casual than the other, and the Bravo restaurant located in the West Wing serving dishes with a unique and modern twist. As you can imagine Bravo itself is a “work of art” and has a rotating selection of the Museum’s contemporary and modern masterpieces. In regards to museums, the Boston Museum is very highly recommended. Visits here encompass everything a fine museum has to offer and more. It is a well thought out space with even more well-thought out renovations that are sure to delight new and regular visitors with new collections, exhibitions and displays of fine artwork from around the globe.
