Youngstown Ohio history began with a land purchase back in 1867. It was established in 1867 and named after John Young who originally purchased the land that the city is situated on. Young originally bought 15,000 acres for about $16,000 in 1797 from the government of the United States.  The city began growing and industrializing and by 1872 Youngstown Ohio received its first railroads and began attracting people and industry in hoards.

The Summer Festival of the Arts is held in Youngstown OH in the beginning of July at Youngstown OH State University. Celebrating performing and visual arts, this festival includes more than 60 national, regional and local artists that attract more than 15,000 people to the campus. This Youngstown OH festival is comprised of an artist’s marketplace, lots  of dance, theater and musical performances and several activities planned out by local churches and museums.
